Summer Movies in the Park Series starts Friday

Lucerne Valley Parks and Recreation proudly presents its 2015 Summer Movies In The Park series. Because of our generous sponsors (OMYA California, Mitsubishi Cement Corp and the Lucerne Valley Road Runners) we are able to offer three family-oriented movies this year.

"ET The Extra Terrestrial" will be shown on July 17, "The Last Starfighter" on Aug. 7 and "The Wizard of Oz" on Aug. 28.

The movies will be shown in Pioneer Park (33187 Highway 247 East) when dark. Admission is free and we look forward to seeing everyone there! For more information, please call the Park Office at 760-248-7048.

Museum 'NightWalks' to Match Movie Nights in the Park

Hot summer, cool nights. The Outdoor Museum is changing its selected openings to night events called "NightWalk." They'll be open from 7 pm until the movie begins, matching with the CSA 29 movies in the park schedule. Mark your calendars for July 17th, August 7th, and August 28th. An additional NightWalk (without a movie) is planned for Friday, Sept. 4th, from 7-9 pm. Be sure to bring your flashlight. Entrance to Lucerne Valley Outdoor Museum is free.

His Closet/His Pantry Yard Sale this weekend

It is that time again, folks! His Closet\His Pantry is having a yard sale to raise money for the food give-away and other expenses. Come on by and pick up some items you might need! Lots of goodies will be available!

This yard sale is a fundraiser to help with ongoing expenses and plans for future expansion to better serve this community.

The Fundraiser Yard Sale at His Closet \ His Pantry Ministries will take place from 9 a.m to 1 p.m. on Thursday, Friday and Saturday July 16, 17 and 18 at High Closet/His Pantry, 34551 State Highway 18, Lucerne Valley. For more information, call (760) 248-7070.

Women of the Moose Swap Meet this weekend

The Women of the Moose will host an Indoor & Outdoor Huge Swap Meeting Sale this weekend, Friday, July 17, Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. a Jack O'Landia (next to Crossroads Church) on Highway 18.

There will be lots of miscellaneous and collector items including fancy crystal, fine china dishes, knick-knacks, cook books, fancy embroidered linens, collector dolls, record albums, CDs, tapes, movies, framed pictures, household items, new designer shoes, new ladies clothing and much more.

Outdoor location spots are available, three days. Donation is $10. RSVP for Outside Spot. Call 760-553-6992 by July 13. Sellers bring own table and chairs.

Frontier Day event will be held on Aug. 1

Frontier Day is coming Aug. 1 at the Lazy Lizard Ranch, 35535 Highway 18. The event starts at 9 a.m.

Fun for all ages, there will be a Chili Cook Off, Horseshoe Tournament, Gunfighters, a Jail House, live music, karaoke, 50/50 prize raffle, food, drinks, raffles and more.

Frontier Day is sponsored by the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce.

Vendor, participant applications and "arrest warrant" signs ups are available at the Chamber office.

The office is open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. The Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce office is located at 32750 Old Woman Springs Road.

VFW Post 5551 Friday night dinners

The VFW Post 5551 will be doing Friday night dinners from 3 to 6 p.m.

This coming Friday the 17th we will be serving meat loaf and scalloped potatoes, toss green salad and dessert.

Lucerne Valley Community Church Vacation Bible School

This one is for the kids. Vacation Bible School (VBS) is coming soon. Games, crafts, snacks, prizes and cool Bible stories, are all part of this package.

The fun begins July 13, 2015 when your parents bring you to the Lucerne Valley Community Church at 4:00 pm and we start the evening with wacky science experiments, then skits and songs and tons of games. Your parents are welcome to stay around and join in on the fun if they like, or maybe Mom and Dad would like to enjoy a week long date night, picking you up at the end of each evening at 7:00 pm.

Parents, this is an opportunity for your elementary school-age children to step into the Power Lab of this science VBS and discover amazing truths from God’s Word. This science-inspired, Christ-focused Vacation Bible School is like no other 5 day program you have ever seen. Kids do real science experiments including rockets, catapults, chemical reactions and more. This VBS is high on Biblical Truth and filled with fun and engagement.

Your kids will learn the B.A.S.I.C Elements of the faith. Leaders are raving about Power Lab VBS! Power Lab VBS is strong on Biblical content, and reaches the highest levels of kid-engagement using amazing and real science content. Bring your kids out for a week loaded with entertaining and wholesome education.

It all happens July 13-17, 4-7:00 pm at Lucerne Valley Community Church, located just east of Pioneer Park and behind the Lucerne Valley Fire Station.

Car Gather on Thursday

The next car gathering will be at Cafe 247, 5 p.m. on Thursday, July 30.

Inland Counties Legal Services to visit Lucerne Valley on July 28

Inland Counties Legal Services will visit Lucerne Valley Outreach Center on Tuesday, July 28. Check-in is 9 a.m.

The agency provides legal services to eligible senior citizens and low-income california residents in civil matters only. Services are free or for a small voluntary donation.

Inland Counties Legal Services advises on collection defense, dissolution of marriage (including custody/vistation and support issues), paternity, District Attorney support matters, guardianship, conservatorship, Nursing Home Issues, Social Security and Supplementary Security Income (SSI), Food Stamps, Cal-Works, Medi-Cal (estate claims, liens and eligibility), landlord tenant issues (including eviction defense), estate planning (simple wills, health and financial powers of attorney), probate issues and real property issues.

The service does not handle criminal or traffic matters.

The remaining schedule: Sept. 22 and Nov. 24.

Open call for artists

Art at the Aspen, a juried premier art show and art sales event in the High Desert, will take place at 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10 and Sunday, Oct. 11 at the Aspen Clubhouse in Sun City, 10741 Lakeshore Drive, Apple Valley.

The event is staged by the Victor Valley Branch, American Association of University Women. All proceeds benefit AAUW scholarship fund for locally awarded scholarships for women & girls.

Evening in the Park on Fridays

The public is invited to Pioneer Park on Fridays starting at 5 p.m. for free food, fellowship and worship. The event will be going on throughout the summer, according to event organizer Stephanie Cervantes. Besides barbecued hamburgers, hot dogs and other food, participants can enjoy music, games and sports

His Closet Free Happenings

HIS CLOSET

His Closet offers free clothes, housewares, furnishings, books, hygiene products and more.

When: 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays only (weather permitting).

As people give to us, we give to you! Donations always welcome. Limited pick-up available for large items. We also appreciate volunteers to help process the donated items. Thank you!

His Pantry is a free food distribution to Lucerne Valley.

When: Last Friday of each month. 10 a.m - as long as food lasts, until 1 p.m.

Lucerne Valley residents only, please bring proof of address, and two boxes. As people give to us, we give to you! Donations always welcome.
