CHAMBER HAPPENINGS

Chamber, Senior Center, Roadrunner Christmas Mixer

The Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce, Senior Center and Roadrunners will host a Christmas Mixer at the Senior Center at 5 p.m. on Dec. 11.

We will be having silent auctions, 50/50 and a good meal. It is a potluck so please bring your favorite meal to share. The public is welcome to come and enjoy the evening with us.

Donate coats to Chamber of Commerce

Do you have a coat or coats that are just sitting in the back of your closet year after year? If so, donate them! Winter is around the corner and it’s going to be a cold one this year. There are people in our community who could use a nice warm coat. You can drop off gently used coats at the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce office or we also have a box at the Lucerne Valley Senior Center. Honorary Mayor Candidates

The Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce is looking for candidates to participate in our 2016 Honorary Mayor Race. Call our Office at (760) 248-7215 to add your name to our list. We are excited about the 2016 year and expect it to be a great one.

Chamber Looking to Appoint New Officers

The Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce is preparing to appoint new board members for the New Year. If you are interested in being on the board, please fill out a membership application at our office. Our next meeting will be December 14, 2015. The Chamber of Commerce is here to help you, but we need your help too.

COMING UP

NOV. 20 - LV Museum presentation

Booze drove the underground wheels of our High Desert infamous bootleggers. Learn more at "Evening Desert" series coming Nov. 20 from 6-8pm when historian Cliff Walker presents the lowdown and dirty of moonshiners, backdoor dealings, and boozy underbelly during LV Museum's presentation. Light refreshments will be offered. Free admission.

NOV. 19 - Start Smart Program

On Saturday, Nov. 19, at 4:30 p.m., the California Highway Patrol (CHP) will be presenting a Start Smart class at the Calvary Chapel Running Springs. The Calvary Chapel is located at 31575, Highway 18, Running Springs.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Office of Traffic Safety (OTS), over 68,000 teens have died in car crashes in the last decade. The Start Smart program is a cooperative effort between the CHP, teenagers, and their parents/guardians. The goal of the class is to help young drivers and their parents understand the responsibilities associated with driving a motor vehicle. The class will also show how poor choices behind the wheel can change the lives of everyone involved. The purpose of this program is to reduce the number of teen-related injuries and deaths due to collisions.

There is no cost for attending the class. Parents and new drivers interested in attending the class need to RSVP with CHP Officer Quintero or Officer Rodman, by Sept. 18 at 909-867-2791. Space is limited to the first 25 students and parents, additional classes will be scheduled as needed.

NOV. 21 - Lions Club to host E.T.I Corral 70 pancake breakfast

The Lucerne Valley Lions Club is hosting a pancake breakfast fundraiser to benefit E.T.I. Corral 70 on the morning of Nov.21.

Meeting regarding Johnson Valley land use

Representatives from the Marine Corps and the Bureau of Land Management will host a Resource Management Group meeting about land use in the Johnson Valley area at the Johnson Valley Community Center, Nov. 21 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m.

The purpose of the meeting is to communicate the Marine Corps' plans to conduct a large-scale exercise 1-30 August 2016 that will include training in the congressionally established Shared Use Area. Information concerning temporary land closures in the Johnson Valley and public safety information will be discussed with attendees. All members of the public are welcome to attend.

NOV. 24 - Inland Counties Legal Services to visit Lucerne Valley

Inland Counties Legal Services will visit Lucerne Valley Outreach Center on Nov. 24. Check-in is 9 a.m. The agency provides legal services to eligible senior citizens and low-income California residents in civil matters only. Services are free or for a small voluntary donation. Inland Counties Legal Services advises on collection defense, dissolution of marriage (including custody/visitation and support issues), paternity, District Attorney support matters, guardianship, conservatorship, Nursing Home Issues, Social Security and Supplementary Security Income (SSI), Food Stamps, Cal-Works, Medi-Cal (estate claims, liens and eligibility), landlord tenant issues (including eviction defense), estate planning (simple wills, health and financial powers of attorney), probate issues and real property issues. The service does not handle criminal or traffic matters. The Lucerne Valley Outreach Center is located at 32649 Highway 18. For more information, call (toll-free) 888-805-6455, ext. 4520.

DEC. 4, 5 - Just Jewelry "Plus" Craft Show

A special event the Lucerne Valley Seniors are sponsoring is the Just Jewelry "Plus" Craft Show.

There will be lovely creative earrings, necklaces, bracelets, etc., one of a kind original art works that would make beautiful stocking stuffers and perfect gives for special people.

The "Plus" part includes other creations of our artists. I do know one artist does beautiful leather work.

To all my crafters, call me to reserve your table. Our hours will be Friday, Dec. 4 from 1-4 p.m. and Saturday, Dec. 5 9-3 p.m. Please call Freda at (760) 247-2207.

Lucerne Valley Youth Project backpack signups

The Lucerne Valley Youth Project teen backpack signup sheet is available at the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce office from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. Signups will conclude on Dec. 15.

The backpacks will be given to school-aged teens ages 13-18 around Christmastime.

Residents can donate items such as hygiene supplies such as toothpaste, shampoo and creme rinse, dental floss, soap and deodorant, school supplies, socks and gloves at the Lucerne Valley VFW, 31861 CA-18, The Chamber office located at 32750 Old Woman Springs Road.

CHURCH NEWS

Calvary Bible Church Youth Group

The Calvary Bible Church Youth Group is starting up. We would like to invite all teens for a time of music, Bible reading and fun. Calvary Bible Church is located at 10099 Crystal Creek Road. For more information, call 760-248-6100.

New Spanish Language church service

The Lucerne Valley Assembly of God Church is adding a new Spanish language church service. The new service is Sundays at 6 p.m. (Spanish).

Other service times are Sundays at 10:45 a.m. (English); and Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. (English).

American Legion Auxiliary meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary meets the first Thursday of each month at 10:00 AM at the VFW located at 31861 Highway 18.

Jan. 1 – Feb. 15, 2016 – His Closet is scheduled to be closed so that our hard-working volunteers can take a break! His Pantry is open on the last Friday of the January.
