San Bernardino County Board of Supervisors Chair James Ramos knows how important parks are to any community’s well-being, and together with the Board of Supervisors as a whole allocated nearly $90,000 in renovation funding to prove it.

“We were made aware of a property in Lucerne Valley that had seen notable deterioration over the past several years, and viewed acquisition and a complete renovation as a priority toward improving the entire neighborhood,” said Ramos.

Completing the effort is just what the Community’s Municipal Advisory Council wanted to do. The park, which has not been officially renamed yet, has seen renovations of its existing restrooms to meet ADA standards, entire irrigation and electrical systems, debris removal, and grading of the entire site.  New additions include basketball and volleyball courts, a picnic area with barbeques, drought resistant trees and shrubs, fencing, and a new playground and swing set.

The project is also benefitting from a grant award from the Mojave Water Agency of $20,000 which is funding the drought tolerant component of the project.

“The project was able to include a renovated high efficiency water system, as well as new landscaping and ground cover as a result of the Mojave Water Agency grant funding, and the County and Lucerne Valley Community are grateful for that important assistance as well.”

The grand opening of the park, located at 9363 Visalia Avenue in Lucerne Valley, is scheduled for Friday, April 8 at 11 a.m.  Supervisor Ramos will be on hand for the ribbon cutting and festivities which will include snacks and refreshments, music, and a bounce house to go along with the new playground, as well as the 3rd grade classes from the Lucerne Valley Elementary School.
