FRONTIER DAYS

Frontier Days Signups

The Chamber will be holding Frontier Days this fall. Scheduled for Oct. 15, the event will be held at Lazy Lizard Ranch, Lazy Lizard Ranch, 35535 Highway 18. The event beckons Lucerne Valley's early days. There will be a chili cook off, horseshoe contest, carnival games for the kiddies and more.

Applications for Frontier Days booths currently available at the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce office. Booth cost: $15 for 10x10 booths. All booths spaces will be assigned in order received, first come, first served.

Horseshoe tournament fee: $10. Note: Chili Cook Off Participants $5 Entry fee for participants.

Booth set up will start at 7 a.m. All booths must be in place by 8:45 a.m. on Saturday, Oct.15. Due to spectator traffic, please no late set up. Vendors must provide their own tables, chairs, trash bags, water pails and shelters. Vendors are responsible for their security, although minimal security will be provided. Maintain cleanliness and removal of waste materials. Due to congestion of vehicles in and around the event grounds, please unload and load promptly and move vehicle to the vendor parking area.

Free finger printing at Frontier Days

The Lucerne Valley Citizens On Patrol (COPS) Unit 414 of San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department will host a finger printing of children from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 15 at the Lazy Lizard Ranch. This community service for children is part of the Frontier Days celebration hosted by the Lucerne Valley Chamber of Commerce and provided at no cost.

Author Lazenby to appear at Frontier Days

During Frontier Days on Oct. 15, local author, Ron Lazenby, will have a booth to promote and sign his new book, Arizona Ranger. The story tells how Arizona Ranger Nathan Burk, using deception, nabs the individuals behind the criminal activities being perpetrated in two neighboring towns. Ron will also have his other four books available.

COMING UP IN TOWN

Boot Scootin’ BBQ Fundraiser Oct. 29

Back by popular demand the "Boot Scootin' BBQ Fundraiser” will be again held at the Lazy Lizard Ranch! All proceeds raised benefit the 2017 LVMS/ LVHS East Coast “Independence to Democracy” Student Trip. Mark your calendars and come to support our kids. There will be live music, line dancing, barbecue and fun. Admission is free.

“An Evening of Country Music” will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 29. Music will be provided by Kalina Walker and “Split Second” with line dancing by Kathy Verkamp.

OUTDOOR LIFE

Sierra Club meeting on Wednesday

The Mojave Group of the Sierra Club will meet on Wednesday, Oct. 12, starting at 7 p.m. Doug Shumway will give a presentation on "The History of Cushenberry Springs". There will also be announcements of hikes and current environmental issues. The public is always welcome to attend these meeting that are held on the second Wednesday of each month. Meetings are held at the Sterling Inn, Regency Room, 17738 Francesca, Victorville (one block north of Bear Valley and Ridgecrest). Enter on Ridgecrest side of the building. Deep Creek Canyon Hike

On Saturday, Oct.15, the Sierra Club will lead a 9-mile hike with a short are of small elevation gain. This "Grand Canyon of the High Desert" has wonderful views above historic Deep Creek which is a joy to see and photograph. There will be an historic commentary relating to the Hesperia Water Ditch which runs through this area. Bring water, snacks, a camera and wear strong shoes. FFA NEWS

Win a Ram truck for FFA

Win a new Ram 1500 truck this December and support students of this community. Tickets are only being sold through the FFA program. Open to legal residents of the 50 United States 18 and older, with a valid driver's license. Limited amount of tickets sold. $10 per ticket or six for $50. Please support this worthy cause. Celebrate Recovery

A new CELEBRATE RECOVERY Step-Study class is currently underway at the regularly scheduled Tuesday meetings at 6:00 p.m.

Celebrate Recovery is a Twelve-Step program based on the Beatitudes for all HURTS, HANGUPS, AND HABITS and is sponsored by HUNTER HARBOR COMMUNITY RESOURCES. Please call Angela (Angie) Smith at (760) 220-3287 for more details.

Friday Night Dinners, Taco Night at the V.F.W.

The V.F.W. Post 551 in Lucerne Valley is now doing Friday Night Dinners from 3 – 6 p.m. Also, the V.F.W. is continuing Taco Night on Thursdays starting at noon. All are welcome to enjoy. The V.F.W. is at 31861 Highway 18, Lucerne Valley.
