Hesperia Christian, which boasts an 8-0 overall record, got out of the blocks quickly and never looked back during last Friday's away game in Hesperia.

The Patriots scored 14 points in the first quarter, but Lucerne Valley challenged in the second, scoring six to Hesperia Christian's eight. But the second half was all Hesperia Christian, which scored 22 in that half to win 44-6.

Quarterbacks Riley Moreno and David Hurtado shared passing duties and collectively passed for 79 yards. Hurtado also was the Mustangs' biggest producer running-wise with 35 yards. Nic Colangeli, Jordan Jones and Nacho Perez had a collective 79 yards receiving.

David Hurtado ran kickoffs for a total of 132 yards, which was the largest single contribution to Lucerne Valley's 301 all-purpose yards.

On defense, senior Nic Colangeli has a whopping 10 solo tackles and three assists. Jordan Jones had one interception for 24 yards.

Senior Poncho Sanchez kicked to kickoffs for an average of 47.0 yards per kick. He also had two punts, average 36.5 yards.

The Mustangs' final game of the season at home against Academy of Careers & Exploration (Helendale) on Friday at 7 p.m.

Note: David Hurtado, Jacob Carmona and Juanmiguel Angeles were named players of the game for an earlier victory against California Lutheran.
