• A stretch of Highway 18 east of Deadman’s Point was searched for evidence related to the death of Dolores Siddall. The search was lead by Hugh Pheaster, the man who was convicted of killing Siddall.
• Shopping: Lettuce was selling for 9 cents per pound; 26-ounce bottles of Pepsi Cola were selling at 5 for 89 cents.
• Weather: Aug. 13, 1963 high temperature was 101, with a low of 70.

25 years ago (Aug. 10, 1988):
• A total of 436 acres burned in a wildfire along the Granite Mountains north of Highway 18.
• Adah Matthews won first place at the San Bernardino County Fair for her crocheted afghan.
• Weather: Aug. 7, 1988 high temperature was 100, with a low of 62.

10 years ago (Aug. 13, 2003):
• A raging fire destroyed a vacant 7,000 square-foot house near Camp rock Road and Dallas Avenue.
• Lucerne Valley Market and Hardware Store was weathering a storm created by the sudden bankruptcy of its former major food wholesaler.
• Weather: August 11, 2008 high temperature was 105, with a low of 72.
