The Lucerne Valley Unified School District’s finances are in order, according to a report Jeanette L. Garcia & Associates.

The firm performed the audit for the year ending June 30, 2013.

Antonia Ruiz, who represented the firm during a school board meeting presentation last week, credited the district’s business department for addressing a few, minor findings.

Superintendent Suzette Davis was ecstatic over Ruiz’s upbeat report.

“It was a great report,” Davis said. “Those are the kind of reports that I love.”

Davis also reported that the district’s enrollment is at 770 and holding steady.

“I’ll be happy when we get past the 800 mark again,” she added.

Business Services Director Billy Wessell had budgeted for 748 students, so the district is in better shape as far as Average Daily Attendance monies are concerned.

Mary Eller, principal of the elementary school, said LVES has 409 students.

“We gained about five students and lost two,” she said.

LVHS Principal Patricia Courtney said she has noticed that “as some are leaving, some are coming in.”

Eller commended the Lucerne Valley Lions Club for hosting the annual spaghetti dinner to honor outstanding elementary school students. One student told Eller, “I’ve been waiting for this my entire life,” a report that brought smiles to the school board meeting audience.

LVHS ASB president Chris Campos shared the school’s event calendar. A grad night fundraiser will be held on the morning of Saturday, Jan. 25 at Applebee’s in Apple Valley, he said. Donation is $10 and includes pancakes, eggs, bacon and sausage.

An FFA leadership conference will be held on Jan. 31-Feb. 1 in Ontario, Campos added.
