Reporter's Notebook: A slice of Americana on our highway

In a few days, Lucerne Valley will showcase the best of itself: The community coming together to honor those who have served and enjoying our neighborliness in the park for some good old fashioned fireworks.

I’ve lived in the suburbs of Los Angeles, spent a few years among the pine trees in Wrightwood, and called the Victor Valley home for numerous years. But no other town can beat Lucerne Valley’s friendliness and devotion to those who have served our country. No other town is as warm as ours.

Each Fourth of July celebration is different, which makes news reporting fun. Last year, my camera lens caught images of beautiful horses prancing, dignitaries waving and tractors slowly moving down the highway. The most memorable pictures, however, was seeing resident Scotty clowning around on various floats. His antics may not have been on the parade schedule, but they certainly were fun to watch.

What will this year’s event bring? Will have to wait and see.
