John L. Westbrook, 88, of Lucerne Valley, passed away July 4, 2016.
He was born in Los Angeles on March 16, 1928. John graduated from Bell High School and he was drafted from high school to serve in the Armed Forces. He served three years in the U.S. Army in Italy and Germany at Tempelhof Air Field during the "Berlin Air Lift."
He was married to Norma Jean Telfer on March 9, 1951. They were marred for 65 years.
John worked as a paint contractor and paper hanger in Big Bear Lake. He had a passion for leather work and loved to scrap anything TVs, computers, door knobs, cars motor homes and anything he could take apart.
His parents were George William Westbrook and Florine Taylor-Westbook, both of whom have passed away.
He is survived by his son Kevin Wayne Westbrook, daughter Cindy Lee Westbrook, adopted son Sergio Gutierrez and predeceased by a brother Wayne Westbrook. He also is survived by nephews Dennis Westbrook and Gregory Westbook and a niece Janis Westbrook; grandchildren April, Ash-Lee, Aubrey, Amanda, Courtney, Coty; and great-grandchildren Zachary, Ethen, Madisyn, Dallon, Raylene, Taylor, Molly, Austin, Jonathen, Raymond and Alianna.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10 a.m., July 15, 2016 at Desert View Memorial Park.
