FROM STAFF REPORTS

Lucerne Valley High School’s Sgt. Brian L. Walker Gym will be buzzing with activity this week, as all three of the school’s winter sports teams will host events.

The Lucerne Valley wrestling team will compete in one of its few home duals this week, hosting Rosamond on Thursday. Weigh-in is at 4 p.m., followed by the meet at 5 p.m.

The Lucerne Valley girls basketball team is scheduled to host Victor Valley Christian at 3:30 p.m. Friday. The girls played a competitive game against Excelsior last week but came up short in the fourth quarter, losing 54-43.

Head coach Tim Baines said his young team is improving and that the Excelsior game was one of their best efforts of the year.
Meanwhile, the LVHS boys basketball team also suffered a loss to Excelsior last week before bouncing back with a 62-54 defeat of Hesperia Christian last Friday.

“The gym was packed and the atmosphere was just tremendous,” LVHS coach Matthew Stratton told The Leader in an email. “And both teams truly gave the fans a night to remember with a very hotly contested game. ... While we haven’t clinched anything yet, we certainly are in a great position to get our second consecutive playoff berth.”

The boys team is set to host Victor Valley Christian at 6:30 p.m. this Friday.
