Two Wednesdays ago I got a message saying that a film crew was at the Lucerne Valley Market & Hardware Store. I grabbed my camera and reporter’s notepad and zipped on over to the Market.
I shot a few photos of the crew setting up the camera and spoke with the project’s British producer. She explained that the subject of the film, a 19-year-old acoustic rock musician named Saint Raymond, was an up-and-comer signed with Atlantic Records. She also raved about Lucerne Valley and its residents.
I dashed back to the office, worked up a few photos and a quick story and uploaded it to lucernevalleyleader.com within a few hours. I even tweeted a link on Twitter (you can find me @peterdaynews).
My information was correct — from the vantage of the producer. Turns out that my early filed story didn’t paint the entire picture, especially from the perspective of Market customers and its owner, Linda Gommel.
According to Linda’s article last week (which makes for a very entertaining and informative read), the rest of the day didn’t go as “peachy” as the start.
“We made one of the biggest mistakes we ever made in the history of Lucerne Valley Market & Hardware,” she wrote.
Furthermore, a customer wrote, “Rude, arrogant Hollywood-type jerks in the parking lot. No access to the Deli for house. Most LV folks are NOT impressed by these low-life Hollywood weirdos....”
Linda answered: “We hope this customer and others who may not have written it down can forgive this blunder.”
Leader readers are encouraged to read and enjoy the A Section, but make sure you check the B Section. There might be something more than Bone-In Pork Steaks for $2.69 a pound (hey, that sounds good.) You might get a chance to read the rest of the story.
