LUCERNE VALLEY • The Lucerne Valley High School boys basketball team split its first two home games, following up a convincing win over Baker with a loss to Joshua Springs.
The Mustangs had 23 steals against Baker on Dec. 11, using those turnovers to create fastbreak points as they cruised to a 51-27 victory.
Daniel Stratton led the team in scoring with 22 points, while teammate Lonye Logan had a team-leading nine steals. Mike Alarcon and Robert Rodriguez were the leading rebounders with 11 and 10 boards respectively.
Next came undefeated Joshua Springs, which blew out the Mustangs 77-47 on Dec. 14.
“We were sloppy from start to finish,” said LVHS coach Matthew Stratton, pointing out that the Mustangs turned the ball over 36 times and shot 31 percent from the field.
Logan scored a team-leading 20 points while Gavin White grabbed 11 rebounds.
The Mustangs had a 3-3 record heading into Tuesday’s game against Immanuel Christian, according to MaxPreps.com.
